An exhibit of Haitian Art from the collection of Jonathan Demme will open on Saturday, January 30, 1999 at Edward Hopper House Art Center, 82 N. Broadway in Nyack, New York. A reception will be held from
12 to 5pm. The gallery hours are Thursday through Sunday from 12:00-5:00pm. The exhibit runs until February 28. For information call (914) 358-0774.

The second part of the exhibit opens on Sunday, January 31 with a reception from 1 to 5pm and will also run until February 28 at the Rockland Center for the Arts, located at 27 S. Greenbush Road in West Nyack. Hours at the Rockland Center are 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday; 1:00 to 4:00pm weekends. For information call Sharon Garry at (914) 358-0877.

A panel discussion will be held at the Rockland Center on opening day, Sunday, beginning at 3:30 pm. The subject is "Art and Society in Haiti." An art historian and a social historian will discuss the relevance of the work of self-taught artists as a mirror of Haitian Life and culture. Admission to the show and discussion is free or by suggested donation of $2.
