"Brief Encounters with Che Guevara" A book of short stories by Ben Fountain

Here's a book of beautifully crafted short stories including four that deal with Haiti.

Many of us who have fallen hopelessly in love with Haiti attribute our maladie to its "mystery" or "magic" but these words are conventional and inadequate when compared to the actual feeling that we have about the place but are unable to articulate. Ben Fountain manages to actually evoke that feeling with a combination of imaginative plots and sumptuous imagery.

This is a brilliant book; reading it is a sensual pleasure.

My fondest hope is that Mr. Fountain will write an entire novel about Haiti someday
