Combite. In rural Haiti if one family has a large task to do, their neighbors come to lend a hand. This communal assistance is known as a coumbite. It may apply to building a house, tilling or harvesting a large field, grinding manioc in preparation for baking, any task that might take weeks or longer if attempted by just one family can be dispatched quickly with a little help from your friends . There are traditional work songs associated with different tasks and the workers normally toil to the rythym of a drum or other percussion instrument.
