A Haitian Art Gallery
SINCE 1974
This is Room 4A. Haitian Art by Agathe Aladin

Agathe is one of the seven children of Haitian artist Theard Aladin. She was born on May 25, 1967 and learned to paint by watching her father. Eventually she began to paint on her own. She lives with her husband and three children in Carrefour, Haiti. She describes her painting style as "imaginary free" She is one of the best self taught painters working in Haiti now.

Agathe's home was destroyed in the earthquake and the family lived outside under sheets and tarps until she finally found a tent through the good graces of the Partners in Health tent program for artists in mid- May. Thanks to Jenny Dubin.
