Kali, the wrathful form of the Hindu Goddess Durga, is the goddess of mysteries. She is usually black, dark blue or gray in color and may be represented without dress except for a garland of severed heads around her neck. She is usually portrayed with her tongue protruding. It is written that people worship her to protect their children from dreaded diseases and their homes from ill omens. Kali is said to be the slayer of the male ego as well.
