Jean-Baptiste Jean was born on April 21, 1953 in Cap Haitien. In 1970, he began painting in the atelier of Philome Obin and in 1971, became associated with Le Centre d'Art in Port-au-Prince. He was one of the best of the Third Generation of Northern School artists, portraying the everyday events of life in and around Cap Haitian, especially the gingerbread architecture, with fidelity and humor. He passed away prematurely in 2002. |
