Naval was born in 1949 in Port-au-Prince. In the late 1970's, he arrived at the Galerie Monnin and was mentored by the artist Simil from whom he learned the technique of lacquering with different colored varnishes, which give his paintings depth and richness. His work was exhibited internationally in the eighties but has since become increasingly scarce.
