The group of paintings below, 4 of them, were painted by Zephirin in a marathon 10 day session in Pittsburgh between Christmas and New Years, 2001/2002. Unfortunately. a digital photograph cannot convey the intensity of the paintings: they are dark and deep, each containing it's own light, which changes according to the ambient light that reaches the face of the canvas at one time of day or another. The effect is achieved through the use of metallic and interference paints and is spectacular to see but difficult to photograph. These paintings are some of the best work that I have seen from Zephirin in years.
