The paintings on this page were done by Zephirin in a marathon session in Pittsburgh, between August 28 and September 3, 2007. Four paintings, each one monumental. Zephirin slept very little during this time; his stamina was maintained by strong cheese, hot peppers, genoa salami and ample quantities of Yuengling lager. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

#2644. Frantz Zephirin
30x40" Acrylic on canvas "The Slave Ship Brooks" 2007 $4500 framed in painted wood. SOLD September 2007. * The Brooks was an infamous slave ship that plied the Atlantic Middle Passage in the late 1780's. The horrific conditions aboard the ship went a long way toward giving abolitionists the ammunition they needed to bring about the end of slavery. For an engrossing portrait of the slave trade, a book that brings history to life brilliantly, read "The Slave Ship" by Marcus Rediker. I usually doze off reading history, but this one I couldn't put down. |
